Time's running out if you don't have a passport and are taking a cruise to the Caribbean or flying to Mexico or Canada next year. As of Jan. 8, passports will be required for all air and sea travel to or from Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda, Central and South America, and Canada. Everyone's included.
Something to consider: Many cruise lines and tour companies require passports to be valid for at least six months after the last date of your trip.
The next deadline to be aware of is Jan. 1, 2008. That's when a passport will be required for all border crossings as well as air and sea travel.
For more details, see travel.state.gov and click for passports. While some post offices accept passport applications, the main Chicago Passport Agency is in the Kluczynski Federal Building, 230 S. Dearborn St., 18th floor (847-487-2778).
